How We Learn: The Surprising Truth About When, Where, and Why It HappensHow We Learn: The Surprising Truth About When, Where, and Why It Happens by Benedict Carey

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book should be mandatory reading for anyone in their gap year between teacher-directed learning and self-directed learning. It reviews all sorts of ways to learn new material but ends by saying that we need to embrace our inner slackers, welcome distractions, and take more naps. Anyone who thinks that social media and technology are the cause of an inability to learn needs to read this book. Anyone who thinks that learning needs to happen with social media and technology should read this book. Carey backs up his claims with all sorts of research but ultimately concludes that balance and moderation are the keys to educational success.
