Hockey Girl Loves Drama Boy by Faith Erin Hicks

Hockey Girl Loves Drama BoyHockey Girl Loves Drama Boy by Faith Erin Hicks
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the best Faith Erin Hicks graphic that I’ve read since Friends with Boys in 2012. I think she’s done a great job of showing the nuances of keeping the peace versus sticking up for yourself and both Alix and Ezra seem to need to see all the complexities. Although this book involves romance, I think it’s really identity -first and that’s a trending topic that we haven’t seen in a lot of other titles recently. It’s smooth, and artistically appealing, and doesn’t present any barriers to readers of all genders. I think adults should consider bringing this into their homes, their classrooms and their libraries because the contexts for both Alix and Ezra feel very ‘today’ for me, and I can imagine having great conversations with students about their choices.
