Loved it. An epic journey with magic that is not easy to come by. I really like the rarity of the magic and how much it takes a toll on not just the individual, but also the community and the society. It’s atypical in the romantasy genre in that it is not set in the European-based medieval norm but the novel relies on a lot of classic archetypes to make these new framings accessible to the novice reader. For example, this female lead has to come of age by being an orphan (archetype) and finds love as the final parcel (classic romance reward). But overall, I had a clear map in my mind in this unfamiliar (to me) setting, and enjoyed lots of the world-building aspects.
