My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I found it very compelling between pages 50 to the end only because the novel’s complexity requires a lot of exposition for clarity. The mystery setup requires a lot of back story as the 2 young detectives need to find a way to meet and start finding secrets but I was hooked from the moment they find the cave. I like all the edges of how family is defined. There is also a delicious and unexpected symbolism in comfort and uncomfortable reminiscences that main characters experience. I think teens and teachers alike would eat it up. Many Canadian references will make this small town feel familiar. Highly recommend.
